The lambs have arrived

This is an exciting update as after several weeks of early mornings and late nights for volunteers we have now finished lambing for 2025.

We have had a great return from the ewes with three sets of twins and one single lamb. This means we have four ewe (female) lambs who will remain part of the flock in future and go on to have lambs of their own. Our three tup (male) lambs will have a great life in Coo Park for the next 6 to 12 months before providing some income to the project from meat and sheepskin production.

We have also brought 8 wethers (one year old male lambs) into the field to further graze down the grass and help us experiment with the right density of sheep for the field to meet our conservation objectives. The wethers will also provide future income to the project. Our approach will provide high welfare, low food miles meat and we hope to stock selected local outlets and a meat box scheme.

We’ve had several visits from Aberlady Primary’s P3 class who have learnt all about livestock management, lambing, conservation grazing and habitat surveys. We are looking forward to welcoming the class back again before the summer break.

Work is continuing on developing the charity which will support the project going forwards and on identifying funding opportunities. If you would like to get involved in this please get in touch!

Thank you to all our amazing volunteers, without you the project simply wouldn’t happen. If you want to discuss volunteering opportunities please contact us – a wide range of roles are available.
