A warm welcome to the flock!

The Aberlady Community Flock has now arrived in Aberlady and are busy settling into Coo Park  (the field beyond the Gardens). There are six sheep in the field at present, four pregnant ewes who will have lambs in late spring and two gimmers (last years lambs) who will hopefully lamb next year.

We are giving the new arrivals a little bit of time to settle into their new home for a week or so. After this we will open-up opportunities for volunteers to participate in managing the sheep, with full inductions provided for all volunteers.

The Aberlady Community Flock will be focussing on:

  • Restoring soil health: Through rotational grazing and natural pasture management, we improve soil fertility and biodiversity.
  • Caring for sheep: Ensuring ethical, healthy farming practices that promote the well-being of our sheep and the environment. We are looking forward to community engagement and already have some very excited P3s who will be working with the flock as part of their farming topic.
  • Reducing carbon footprint: By working with nature, we are working towards keeping things very local with meat and fibre opportunities to come in future.

We look forward to you becoming part of a community movement supporting sustainable agriculture and a thriving, greener Aberlady.
